Diamonds are a girl’s best friend and no best friend can be a fake! Dodgy dealers may try to trick you into purchasing fake diamonds, which are in fact the less precious stone, cubic zirconium or even cleverly disguised glass. It is in fact very easy to distinguish the differences between a real diamond and a fake or less precious stone – so don’t be fooled in the future by having a quick look at a few methods of how to find real diamonds below.

If planning to purchase a real diamond, only go to reputable jewelers. You can generally tell if the jeweler is trustworthy and of good reputation simply by looking at the quality of what he sells, the prices and if he provides a certificate with diamonds, which note the quality of the diamond. Secondly, if he has awards or certificates and established date, the jeweler is very likely to be a true professional.

There are a few tests you can do if you want to test that what you’re handling is a real diamond. If the diamond is not set, place it on a newspaper, turn the stone over and try to read the newspaper. If you can read the newspaper, sadly it’s a fake. Diamonds refract light, hence they cannot be directly seen through.

A few of diamond’s properties can help you distinguish whether it is real or not. For instance, they conduct heat. It is generally not a good idea to place any precious stone near intense heat, so for this test all you need to do is gently breathe upon the stone. If it remains fogged up for more than 5 seconds or so, it is likely to be a fake. However, this test is not always accurate as it may be cubic zirconium capped with a diamond and moissanite finish.

Diamonds are a very hard element, hence they do not damage easily. A diamond is unlikely to have any scratches, whilst cubic zirconium – a much softer element – can be scratched really easily. Diamonds can easily cut or scratch something as solid as a mirror, whilst cubic zirconium is much more likely to be scratched or damaged by daily usage.

Moreover, look at the stone’s colour. Diamonds are generally not completely clear, like cubic zirconium; rather they are tinted with a yellow colour. Depending on the quality of the diamond, the tint will vary from stone to stone. A diamond’s coloured tinge is generally quite easy to see as professional jewelers cut accordingly to the colour in order to emphasise the unique clarity of the gem.

Furthermore you can check the validity of the diamond by looking at the mount. Diamonds are only mounted in precious metals such as gold and platinum because other metals, such as silver are considered to be too soft for diamonds. To check the precious metal is real, look out for hallmarks, such as the standard ‘925′ mark, the maker’s mark, the Assay hallmarks and a purity hallmark. At least one of these should be present if the metal is truly precious.

Loose Diamonds are beautiful, timeless stones which are an investment, and the purchase must be researched carefully to make sure you are getting the most excellent deal feasible. There are many benefits of purchasing wholesale loose diamonds from a knowledgeable, online retailer. Selection is a key when it comes to choosing from a range of loose diamonds. A few online web sites are able to store lots of loose stones as they don’t require worrying about display and space concerns. The majority of retail stores just have the space to store about 50 loose stones that could noticeably limit your selections. Once you eradicate stones that are not the correct diamond shape, cut or carat weight, you might be left with just with four or five collections from which to select.

Purchasing wholesale loose diamonds accumulates online shop money, and a lot of stores select to pass such savings straight to the consumer. Online stores do not have many similar expenses as the brick and mortar shop, comprising display cases, retail space as well as special lighting to aid make the gemstones glitter that eliminates big overhead expenses. Moreover, online stores purchase huge quantities of certified diamonds immediately, permitting them to regularly negotiate considerable volume discounts. Search for an online store which selects to pass the savings to the customer, and you will be certain to get a great deal.

If you are looking to purchase loose diamonds online, you have a better possibility to get certified diamonds. It is significant to know that not all loose stones bought online are certified, though it is becoming more common to find loose stones with GIA (Gemological Institute of America) grading. If you purchase one of these certified diamonds online, you will get paperwork with all the pertinent information regarding the stone. This will comprise the carat weight, cut, color and clarity. If the stone has any faults, regardless of how small, the mistake will be noted on accompanying paperwork.

A layman would say that you should spend two month’s salary on buying an engagement ring. But, the confusion is from where & how to start? Buying an engagement ring is a piece of cake; buying a good one is a little trickier.

A diamond engagement ring could be one of the biggest purchases you’ve ever made. It is both a financial and an emotional investment for the lifetime. It doesn’t stand as a symbol of your undying love only– it will also tell her that you care enough to choose only the best. And we know how hard a decision it can be.

This is where we can help…

To get her to pick the ring of her choice would be the easiest way but, will you want to miss the pleasure of surprising her? Just recall if she ever shared her preferences regarding style of the ring or type of diamond with you. If not, a short tutorial is here to help you. With this, you’re sure to find a perfect ring that she will like.

The diamond plays the most significant role in a diamond engagement ring. So its always advisable to have some education before you look at your diamond. A diamond’s value is determined by four factors called it’s 4Cs. (Cut, Carat, Color & Clarity)

Cut – Cut determines brilliance of a diamond. Each diamond shape has its own set of guidelines for what makes a Premium or Good cut. The most popular and commonly preferred shape for diamonds is the round brilliant cut. A traditional woman will always like this shape. Another much loved shape is the princess-cut or square. It best fits those modern women who want a blend of class & style.

Carat – It is the measurement of a diamond’s weight. Each Carat is divided into 100 parts called ‘points.’ A 1 carat diamond has 100 points, a ½ carat diamond has 50 points so on. Although 1 carat diamond is a popular choice but you can always go for bigger diamonds of 2 or 3 carats, depending upon your budget.

Color & Clarity – the less color a diamond has, the more valuable it is, other factors being equal. There is diamond color grading system which uses alphabets from D through M. Diamonds with a color grade of D, E or F are most colorless; G, H, and I are near colorless. Picking a diamond from the color grade of G, H, I is a good idea as it looks white and beautiful to a naked eye & has a good value.

Clarity refers to how much clear a diamond is internally. The fewer and less obvious the inclusions, the more valuable the diamond. There is a clarity grading scale; F-IF (flawless), VVS1-VVS2 (very-very slight inclusions), VS1-VS2, SI1-SI2 & so on. I recommend that you select an “eye-clean” diamond – where inclusions are not visible to the naked eye. But if you’d rather not compromise on color but would like to stay on budget, go for SI1-SI2 clarity. If you want better clarity yet budget conscious, choose a diamond with H or I color.

Finally, decide upon the type of metal you want your diamond to hold in. Gold has always been a desired metal, but platinum is getting popularity these days. It’s purity, beauty & luster perfectly compliment diamonds and it’s durability & strength ensures that your engagement ring will last a lifetime. As I told earlier that gold is the most popular option and is available in 14K & 18K and in both yellow & white colors. If you want the look & beauty of platinum while staying in budget, go for 14K white gold.
